speedometer jumps and is inaccurate

so ive restored a 1977 ct 70 and took it for its first tour down the street. the speedometer works but it seems like when you shift into 3 or get over 20 it jumps way up past 50 actually past the numbers on the speedometer. i am definitely not going that fast lol I'm not sure what could be causing this thanks for any help

Take the end off the wheel assembly and spin the cable with a drill, just to make sure the problem isnt in the wheel. I would also clean/grease the cable to before hand, as mentioned.

Also use grease sparingly and don't do the last foot up at the top end. You don't want so much in there that rises up into the speedo assy.
