And electric speedo? I’m not hip to that is the installation and set up on those difficult? How do they work?
AFAIK they're all 12 volt, so take that into consideration. You'd tap into a (+) circuit that is activated when the key is switched to "on". Both the brake light & horn have feeds inside the HL shell. Next up, you'd install a mount, near the axle, for the speed sensor. Some require a magnet on the wheel, others can use the existing bolt heads, or a single bolt, as a trigger. Either way, there'll be a two-conductor lead to connect back to the speedo head unit; that's actually the easy part, it can be wrapped to the brake hose.
As for the actual speedometer head unit, that depends on your taste and budget. At the low-cost end of the spectrum, Trail Tech is a nice option. You'd get speedo, odo (a.k.a. CT70 fuel gauge), rpm and timer. Last I checked, these were ~$125. I've seen a few K0-style electronic units that fit into a K0 HL shell. They used to be all over ebay for ~$60 a pop.
All of that said, you might wanna just try your existing speedometer with the new cable & drive. It
should be plug & play. No idea how close the readings will be. What've you got to lose by testing it?
