Status Update

Full carb rebuild except main jet - kit came with 65 and 70 so I need to order a 58.
All new gaskets and screws for the carb
New points, condenser, and spark plug
New muffler

Starts and runs much better although it won't settle on idle. Thinking it might be the old throttle cable. I may polish the upper portion (slide chamber) since I had the parts soaking for 48 hours. Any thoughts?

No speedo but the engine runs great all through WOT.

Now I just have to say 'Enough!!' and start the teardown.

Nothing really worth taking pictures yet.

No real pictures to post for the work performed to date.

The guy that is going to shoot the paint highly recommended NOT having the painted parts sand blasted. We are going with a Baking Soda Blast so as not to stress the sheet metal.

Used my neighbors blasting cabinet (garnet media) to do the rims, hubs, a couple of jugs, and a variety of other small parts. Still finding more parts to take over there.

Just got done painting the Wheel Halves, Hubs, Bolts, Nuts, Washers, and Lock Washers with Dupli-Color Etching Primer and Metallic Wheel Paint. I did wire brush (using the grinder motor) each Bolt, Nut, Washer, and Lock Washer. That was fun.

Now working on some form of polishing station to do the Brake Backing Plates and misc. other parts.

Need to find a better way to clean up the exterior of the heads (I have 3 to work with).

That's all for now - Just a 'Good Feeling Week'

Alot of the bolts & nuts are still avaliable - Honda brand . I replace them with the new Honda bolts . I keep the old - clean them up & replate them .

Are we having fun yet ? :4:

Status Update:

Project had been on hold due to finances for a little bit. Now back into it.

Last set of used parts enroute - Will now have '5' 2 hole chrome fork ears to work with along with a set or two of painted ones.
Remember that this is going to be a good looking 'Mutt'. Different parts, paint, decals, etc from varying years. Just my vision.
A 74' that is Candy Ruby Red, 70's body decal, turn signals, yada yada yada. A good mix-n-match
In the next day or two the paint will be ordered and then off it goes.............................

I promise to post progress photos

Thanks for all of your help.

Stephen

PS - Just an idea, but I might look for another full set of 'To Be Painted' items just to use up the paint and have another project on the back burner. Don't want the paint to go bad - LOL

It's been a busy day around here today. Today was my day all to myself - the last of a 5 day weekend - so off to the shed I went.

93 degrees, high humidity, no breeze - so I opened both the front and back doors of the shed, fired up a fan, and off I went.

With some very good information from Dupa and Racerx I began polishing. Polishing kit in hand along with Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish.

Started with the handlebar mount - very pleased
Next to the Intake Tube - again very pleased
Spent quite a bit of time on the Carb - cleaned up nicely.
Took a little bit of a break and sanded down the speedo body and shot some primer - I will need some filler
Kept working on the visible portions of the engine cases. Either they are heavily pitted, or maybe not the smoothest castings, or maybe a combination of both. Happy with the results (MANTRA: Not a Resto - Not a Resto - Not a Resto)
Took one of the front forks over the the buffing wheel and had at it - Very Nice!!
Many people have mentioned the word 'Addictive'

Had to jump in the pool a couple of times - worked up quite a sweat just doing simple tasks.

Yes - Pictures will hopefully be coming shortly.

Getting very frustrated with the Chrome 2-Hole Headlight Ears. Hardest part is getting the turn signals to look normal. Very difficult to work with those mounting holes. Maybe I just need to get a good set of 1 hole painted ears and get the sucker shipped out for painting. I keep telling myself that everything is just a bolt-on and can be changed later. That's why I am investing the most in the paint job now.

Picked up some VHT Paint to do the jugs - figure I'll do all three that I have just because I can. Big box set aside for stuff going off the be Powder Coated.

Time to hit the pool again and maybe mix up a Margarita.

Another HOT night in the shed.

Finished polishing the one fork. Wet sanded and filler putty the speedo. It was hot enough the I started wet sanding the left engine cover.

Pics are not much to look at - but I did promise.

Looks like you're well on your way.

Just a thought, if you've disassembled the speedometer, you could have the housing re-chromed and it's not that expensive. If you've left it intact then...never mind:4:

I feel as if I should be attending some form of weekly meeting.

"My name is Stephen, and I am a......."

Still in a major heat wave. Enjoyed the wet sanding process. Mentioned about taking the parts into the pool with me but I was overruled :68: - LOL

The paint I am using is the Dupli-Color Wheel Paint WP101 Silver. Used the Etching Primer along with a little bit of wet sanding. Left a few of the nicks just for character. I originally used this on the rims and liked the look, so, I decided to carry the same color to some of the other parts. The pic of the speedo is lousy but it came out looking great. I was almost going to have it painted the Candy Ruby Red but decided against it.

A little bit cooler - rain's are a comin'

Just for fun, and as a backup, I started working on a really bad set of forks - lots of oxidation - these have the grove in the top where the others did not. Still trying to figure out what kind of front end I want.

IN DESPERATE NEED OF HEADLIGHT FORK EARS.

Pic 1 - One before and one having bee wire brushed
Pic 2, 3 - both wire brushed
Pic 4 - one polished

Still a lot of heavy pitting - not planning on going uber crazy.

Time for another cold one.

Stephen
