The Trail 70 graveyard story

I've been searching and asking around my area for people that might have 70 parts. My cousin told me to talk to this guy that he thought might have what I'm looking for. So, I paid this guy a visit and as soon as I pulled up to his house I saw a 70 leaning against his garage and three others under his porch. I thought, oh yeah, this is gonna be good. I told him that I'm trying to restore a couple of 4 speed 70's and gave him a list of the parts I was looking for. He took me around his property and showed me all the 70's he had. My mouth dropped open. I had never seen so many 70's in one place. Some were in the woods, some in back of an old truck, some in a building. All together he must have had 15-20 Trail 70's! I saw the parts I needed, good seats pan, tailight assembly, stator cover, etc. But he didn't want/wasn't ready to sell any of it. That's frustrating when you see what you need but can't get it. The sad thing is that stuff is probably gonna sit there and rot into the ground. I gave him by number maybe he'll change his mind, I hope.

There is a guy here in north Texas that use to rent Z50 to ride and is supposed to have a warehouse full of headlight and taillights that he took off the bikes before he rented them and a bunch of other parts, but the guy I know who knows him said he want sell them.

He's a hoarder. You see them all the time on the show American Pickers. People just not willing to let things go that they have no use for. It amazes me.

I'm surprised his stuff is still good . Most of those I find is simply junk .
P>S> -- He only had 15-20 .

I was kinda surprised too. Especially with a lot of it sitting outside. One of the bikes that was in the back of an old truck had a good seat pan with the tool kit. From what I know a good original seat is pretty hard to find. Some of the bikes are junk but there is a lot of good stuff going to waste. I wish I would've had my camera so I could post pics so everyone could see what I saw.

Yeah, but who knows when your going to need a warehouse of head/tail lights, and if you cant buy them from him, you know he is a hoarder. At least on american pickers, they will sell stuff most of the time, and they dont usually have a warehouse full of the same parts.

I think I know the guy. I was in his shop last year and he had over 30 Mini Trails stacked up double decker on big storage shelves in the back of the shop. He also has a lot of hit and miss engine stuff.
