Thought I would revive this thread to clear up the mystery regarding my grab bar. I just recently found out that it is the factory bar for the 1990's CT70s.

There are a few differences with the 12v (1990s-vintage) frames. Apparently, the hole spacing for the grab handle is one of them. [12v side badge incuses, the recesses into which the decals fit, are shorter than 6v models and the most obvious difference of a 12v frame.] The handle on your `79 is a better setup, but still not all that useful for lifting the bike, unless you're a southpaw. The chrome handle was never intended to assist in lifting the bike off the ground; it was there to help rock the bike onto a centerstand. ST70 Dax models were the only 6v bikes that had the centerstand/grab handle combo. On a CT70, it's mostly bike jewelry, imho. Nothing wrong with that if you like the look.

If you're after a solid, usable, lifting handle you'll do better to source either an aftermarket grab handle that goes just behind the seat, or a luggage rack...better leverage and balance point. The rear fender, at a point between the two mounts, is a safe lifting point for righthanders...free, too.:4:
