Usable upper fork tube?

Hi everyone. My 73 CT70 (K2) project continues. I found major corrosion pitting in 1 of the upper fork tubes and I'm afraid that it will cause fluid blow-by if I reinstall this tube with a new seal. I can't find a link to attach a photo, but there are several divots. This bike will see light duty but I don't want fork oil dripping everywhere. Any thoughts?

It definitely needs to be replaced if those pits and holes are in the fork seal wiping area. If they are above where the seal wipes then in won't cause you any problems. I'm pretty sure complete replacement k2 forks are available and are relatively cheap. But if you wanting originality, then finding a good OEM tube is the option. I have K1 forks here, but I can't say for sure if the inner fork tube is the same. Someone else here will be sure to know. There's a good thread about forks on here that @scooter and @kirrbby had a very good discussion about using the aftermarket inner tube in a factory lower leg. That could be an option for you too if it's possible to harvest the parts from the aftermarket fork assy.

I’m 99% sure all k-1 an up tubes are the same although the lowers legs are different on various model years. Finding one with a good wipe area can be challenging.. even the ones with little or no rust are scuffed and have the hard chrome wore off in spots..they are out there but just ask for good pics before you buy If you want to harvest a good orignal Honda tube..

I will look at the forks I have here. I have a few sets and I'm certain I can find a good pair of inner fork tubes. I will let you know tomorrow.

I've got a good straight inner fork tube from the K1 model. No scoring or rust within the seal wiping area. Minimal rust within and above triple clamp area. Should work great for you if you decide you want it. I have other spares with no rust or scoring but unfortunately they are bent. But I will keep those for myself as I can straighten them. Here's a few pics of the good one I have.
