Not sediment, just darker color fluid. Probably just some off chemicals coming from tank and float. Not a concern.

I had to “tap” the needle seat in from the back side using a punch. Assuming the marring caused by me is OK because it’s the back side

This is as far as the emulsion tube screws in. Should it be all the way?

My needles. The original one is:

Klein 16307

The one I’m using is #D185

The other one is #D94

Keep in mind I have a new seat in there as well.

Closer shot reveals why I chose to use the D185. I used what DRATV sent me. Not sure where the D94 is from

I would at least shine a light in there, see how it looks. But if the fuel is more than a month old...get rid of it. Go buy fresh fuel...rule out the possibility of bad gas causing you work, and grief.

The emulsion tube is seated once you feel resistance from the threads. Do not reef on those threads, they'll strip easily (if the zinc casting doesn't break first) then you'll be really unhappy. Only thing I've not seen, so far, is the emulsion tube...out of the carb. Hate to keep harping on this but, unless every one of those minuscule wall orifices is completely clean & flowing freely, it'll never deliver normal performance. If you're rodded them out, using a thin wire, then you're probably done with that cleaning chore. There's still a slight chance that one, or more, could remain partially clogged...ask me how I know this. OTOH, if you're relying on carb cleaner and a wire brush, the odds of success fall dramatically.

Agreed, where do you think that came from? The family lawnmower gas can? It seems like a good idea to flush the tank out with fresh gas.

I messed around with it for quite awhile during the weekend.

I'm back to thinking there's something up with the throttle cable. I know it's a reproduction. I wonder if the cable is too short. It is an absolute BEAR to get the slide detached from the cable as the "pin" doesn't come out of notch of the slide when fully compressed.
