Look here. You should be able to tell how they're held in, and how you'll need to get them out.

Quick question, which is the best method to add the oil to the forks while they are off the bike or should I install the forks first then add the oil? Thanks

You can just open the cap, extend the leg, and pour it in. Keep the leg extended, or the oil can squirt back out.
It's easier to install them first, just so you have 2 free hands. The trick is filling them thru that tiny hole. I have a tiny funnel that I use. I bought it at a liquor store...it's sold there for filling flasks.

I found a local locksmith that can cut me a key, but it would be $40. Since I'm probably putting an aftermarket engine in the bike and going to a 12 volt system. I'm weighing my options on how I want to wire the bike. I've still got the factory body harness. So I'll probably use the 12 volt sub harness from trail buddy. I need to look my wiring over, and make sure it is in good shape.

Plenty of complete harness kits, soup to nuts. 50 bucks + tax, free shipping. This may be ok as is, or stretch a wire here and there. Seems like a lot of value vs buying everything separate.

Agreed, I need to look around and see what's available. And with my tumbler already needing repair, just replacing everything may be the way to go.

I went with ebay item# 165032949520 The ignition in the kit may or may not fit right in the frame. It looks better suited to 1980 and up CT's.
They use a plastic speedo housing for the key.

I use/fill straight out of a ''ratio rite'' measuring cup. Pour VERY slowly filling forks no matter what you use. LOL! 10 bucks on ebay. It is a must for mixing 2 stroke oil, ct70 oil changes, etc Good catch Kirrby with the T/S. The old webllc complete kit had them.

Trail Buddy has a $55 harness only, that has provisions for everything imaginable...well almost. You would have too weed out all of the extra stuff...and probably change out a bunch of terminations and such.

nightrider, have you seen warnersteel's videos??
He has good info on 12v Lifan swaps.

Yep, I've watch a good amount of his videos. Very informative. For now I'm not too worried about turn signals but in the future I may want to add them. Probably go with a trial buddy harness at that point. Probably for now I could just do a dirtbike style simple wiring. Included with most Chinese engines and just run a simple kill switch.

Thanks for the tip. I do need to pick up something to measure the oil.

You might like post number 16 here too.
It's not too hard to add a turn signal circuit.

On the fork oil topic, I was reading through the PDF of the CT70 service manual and saw that originally Honda specified to use ATF 1.85-2.03 ounces in the front forks. I just thought that was interesting.

Pretty sure that’s the amount for 1980 up forks. I prefer to use fork oil, I use 15 weight. The atf I believe is lightweight like maybe 7? Meant for a little rider. Old CT answered your question in the tech area about fork oil amount for your style of forks.

I just thought it was interesting. Wondered if they specified ATF back then, just because it was easily accessible to the public. But fork oil is the way to go.
