69 ct70 what's so different?

The wiring hole on the headlight bucket is smaller. Also the different exhaust bracket is only for the early silver tags. There are silver tags with the regular bracket.

Yea, the siliver tag Earl just sold had the long high nut bracket too. That must be something they were sorting out in begining, I've seen them both ways. I didn't know about the wiring hole being smaller though. anybody else notice the wiring hole smaller?

Every bolt is large "8" should be added
Spark plug boot should have black ngk logo like early z50's
head can have diamond and three or four lines
air cannister does not have rear rubber boot on early models (has metal boot instead)
carb has aluminum looking hose connections instead of brass
crude welds on chain guard
smaller wiring hole on headlight bucket
no battery overflow hole above rear fender
Thinner handle bar knobs

I think there is more too. I will try to remember.

Sorry to keep bringing this thread up. I was looking at my notes and thinking about the wiring hole on the headlight. I am not sure now that the hole is smaller. My old notes are vague but I think the hole is just cut more crude. Can anyone check to confirm?

I don't think that the hole is smaller than the 70-71's..The number stamping is the same. I have always believed they were all from the same mold. Just My .02 :4:

That could be true. On the other hand if you look at the s90 headlight it also has the same C-5H marking, just in a different area. The holes on the back of the mold are different than CT70's.

69 Honda ct70's are a little different, this is what we have noticed,

1) Early silver tags have wheels with no bosses. also the spokes are flat in the center.
2) Early 69's have Front fender with a lip in front.
3) Headlight ring doesn't have as much detail around adjusting screw as latter models do.
4) High beam light in Speedo is made of fabric not a lens.
5) Early silver tag Brake levers are made of plastic.
6) Engine cradles have square pads where spark plug guard goes. continued beyond 69 production
7) Seats have bolt on tool carriers.
8) Taillight wire goes up thru frame close to where taillight mounts.
9) Early taillight has brazed on bosses.
10) Rear brake stabilizer is straight, doesn't have the bends in it.
11) Chain guard is held on with Philips screws.
12) Horn is black and has screws holding it together.
13) Exhaust pipe has taper end no stub.
14) One piece Stator Cover.
15) Wire guide on eng./Frame is silver not black.
16) Gas Tank Bracket is a little shorter. continued beyond 69 production
17) Large #8 on head bolts holding wheels to hub's
18) The center bracket that holds the exhaust is different on a Silver Tag 69, might be early black tag too. It is a little larger and has a "Dog Leg" in it so it reaches closer to the frame, and there isn't a extra long nut on the motor mount where it bolts on, Instead it has a short nut on the motor mount, then the bracket, then a lock washer and another nut.
19)Every bolt is large "8" on head should be added.
20)Spark plug boot should have black ngk logo like early z50's
21)Head can have a diamond and three or four lines
22)Air cannister does not have rear rubber boot on early models (has metal boot instead)
23)Carb has aluminum looking hose connections instead of brass.
24)Crude welds on chain guard.
25)Smaller wiring hole on headlight bucket.
26)No battery overflow hole above rear fender.
27)Thinner handle bar knobs.

This is all we found, anyone think of anything else?

Here's one I have'nt seen before, as you might know I've been refurbishing alot of speedo's lately, probably 25 or more, on my silvertag, when I took it apart, all of the speedo's I've done have had 2 tubes holding up the faceplate, one for the highbeam light and the other blank with a rubber on it also, holding the faceplate square, but my silvertag 's speedo has only 1 tube,You can tell by looking at the back of the speedo for the rivets, just got another today from ebay, same thing. my guess is that they figured later that it needs 2 to hold the face plate square. By the way, the high beam jewels are many different type's, yeah, the early ones have mostly been flat plastic, but I have'nt seen fabric yet, my guess on this is different suppliers at different times, alot of times concave plastic on the KO's, thats what I've seen anyway.

Thanks Dennis and Don we added them in, I had never noticed those two differences, But I did repair a silvertag speedo that the plate had cracked probley from vibration and only one tube holding it up.

One more thing Grant......Jamie has found that the silver tags vin plate are actually a metal plate like the black tags except without the drive pin holes and not a decal.I had always assumed they were a decal.

According to the Honda Parts Catalog, the steel fuel tank change occured after VIN's CT70-2040050 and CT70H-2017000. I'm not sure the total amount of K1 & HK1's that were made. Perhaps all that were made of each was 40,050 and 17,000. Does anyone own a higher VIN K1 or HK1?

The vin number on my CT70HKI is CT70H-2018192. It has a metal tank. The date on the tag is 3/72
