A question about the correct side cover for a 69.

Did some Mid 69s have a one piece left side cover or a 2 piece with the small removeable cover? This is for a CT70.

The earliest bikes got the one-piece, Z50, cover. No idea when the two-piece superseded it. The running changes were so fast & numerous that the word "barrage" comes to mind...and the exact chronology has never been documented for any of them. We're stuck with educated guesses, though some are pretty good.

Make sure you know what you're lookin for. Early Z50's used 3 different versions of stator covers. Then in the 90's they went to the 4th (12v).
You want the 2nd version from late K1's and K2's. Has a little beveled edge along the bottom in the area of the sprocket.

Any idea when that beveled edge was deleted? Was the beveled edge used on K1's and K2s only? I presently have two nice z50 stator covers, one of each. I'm wondering which is correct for a 73K4 model?

Hi Z50nut

Glad to see that you're back to working on your soft tail. I've looked at several soft tails and only seen a bevel edge side cover on 1. That was a 74, which I know is not correct. Based on the parts list I have, there was a change on the side cover starting with the K3 soft tail (1972). I think it's safe bet that your 73 does not use a bevel edge side cover.

That is my understanding too. The beveled cover stopped with the K2. K3's+ all got the newer cover...3rd version. My manual shows only one part #. The book was printed in 10/69. I think this must be the part # for the longtail, K0 & early K1, version.

With any luck, and a bit of free time, I'll get around to mounting up that engine, and see what we've got this weekend. Thanks again for those bolts Allen!
