A really good day!

I had to share with you all my luck last week. I woke up in the morning wondering what I was going to do, kinda bored, so I thought I'd see what was available on C.L. In the motorcycles section an ad that said Honda 70 caught my eye. Reading the ad the guy said he was cleaning out his Dads garage and had a CT70 he "just wanted someone to pick up", so I called him to set up a time to see it. I drove out there in the afternoon, excited about what I may find, to my delight he had a rather complete and somewhat clean 1980 CT70 in Tahitian red sitting in the driveway! After we talked for a bit he told me he just wanted to give it away, as, he didn't have time to fix it up and sell it. It had no key and pink because it had been buried in the garage for a long time. Of course I happily accepted it and took it home! It has 1,723 miles on odometer, original tool kit under seat, owners manual, owners i.d. card. Everything's there! Talk about a really good day!

Thanks

Wow...That was so nice of him to give you that bike!! That was also very nice of you to help someone out at the gas station...I just got home and read your post...It really made me feel good because I had been at a service marking the 8 year anniversary of 9-11 and I was feeling pretty sad after that...I read your post and was reminded that there are still a lot of good and giving people in this world...Thank You For Sharing That Story!

KM, I aggree. In my short experiance with this site and my dealings with the people on it (both via the chat, phone calls, and purchases) I have come to find out a lot of those people are here.

Like my Mama always taught me, "You reap the oats you sow in life"!

Wow! Apparently, cynics are in no short supply.

Yes Sadly...

It seems like people are so much more willing to give when they do it on their own without being asked for it for free or by someone wanting something for dirt cheap...They would rather just keep it...

I have given things away, BUT, I feel like I have received a lot more than I gave and I am a firm believer in what you give, you will get back 10 times over. That was a lesson that my parent's taught me and because of that I feel very blessed in my life. Not because of the things that I have given or received, but because of the lasting relationships that developed because of it.

Quick Story that keeps me grounded: When I worked in the non-profit sector, I saw the best and the worst in people...The givers and the takers...The best were the people who didn't really have it to give, but they did. We had one older lady on disability who had nothing, but without fail, would send the organization $2.50 every month, because that is what she had extra after her living expenses and she wanted to "give back" to the place that had helped her and she felt that she was helping someone else who had it worse than she did..

I believe the guy that gave away that minibike knew what it was worth, but it was worth so much more to him to give it to someone who would appreciate it rather than having the cash.:41:

Sorry to preach here, but there really are good people out there and sometimes we forget that, so for me it was refreshing to read Vin's story and also our own nikinizor who recently gave away an HKO when he could have sold it. And also I want to mention all of the knowledge that is just given away here buy a lot of the members...How much cash and time has that saved EVERYONE???

I love hearing good deed stories after all the crap that we all hear everyday...Keep it up.

JD...Your Mom is right, we do reap what we sow. ThankYou and now I will get off of the soapbox and on to the Topaz!:monkey:

Well Omega, I understand your doubt:47:, it is truly an unbelievable windfall:24:. However, since it actually did happen, yes, it did, I will rest my head upon my pillow every night knowing that I had a very good day. I'm sorry no one responds to your ads, but, maybe if you stop looking so hard fortune will shine upon you. That whole karma thing works too!
To all who enjoyed my story and commented so positively, Thank You! :4:I'll post more pics and the status of my pot-o-gold soon. Vin

:wave:km, not a day goes by that I don't try and help my fellow man. Believe that! Today I drove by an older one armed gentleman (really, I can't make this up) with a flat on his motorhome, went to next exit turned around to stop and assist. He actually knew my old FD Cap! Were talking miles from his home and my work! It truly is a small world and you never know why your put in the right place at the right time.

we have whats called freecycle.org for our city (they are all over the country) and its for just that purpose - give something away - pick up something else, I think Canada calls it National Recycle Day and you do the same thing at the curb. I like that it went to someone who "wanted it" for riding purposes and not "wanted it" for selling purposes! and that is excellent.

I had a similar situation I got a 1959 Honda Sport 250 given to me (I was offered $5 to take it - i took it for free) - I tried to find out info on it, and it was tough - turned out it was a pre-import AND the 88th one ever made. I finally ended up selling it for 2K - tried to contact the donor - and couldn't find him. Now its in a museum in the Netherlands. VJMC.
