Candy Ruby Red perfect match

Well, after having good luck painting my cars spoiler with Duplicolor touch-up paint and automotive clear urethane I decided to use it on the 70. I found a few colors that were close to the original and picked the one I liked best. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that over the right silver base the red I found matches the original Honda Candy Ruby Red perfectly. I painted the headlight bucket to compare it to a spot under the seat, see picture. In the sun or under fluorescent lighting the color is dead on. The silver is BGM0508 Ultra Silver Metallic and the red is BGM0509 Dark Cherry Metallic (3 light coats). Haven’t cleared the light bucket yet but after I finish restoring it I will post some better pictures.

I'm a big fan of Candy Ruby Red myself. Here's a picture of my HK1.

Are those duplicolor number's? I was just looking to figure this out as well and if they are you just saved me about $40 and a few hours.

Man, if my bikes looked that good I'd be afraid to ride 'em. I'd probably just sit in the garage lookin' at it all day.

If you are going to paint the headlight bucket just remember to use a sealer primer because Duplicolor is lacquer and will react to the plastic... don't ask me how I know! Another reason to use light coats and let them dry thoroughly before re-coating.

FWIW...that's a reasonably accurate reproduction of the K1 cover. The only real difference being the stitched seams. OEM covers had heat-pressed (simulated) stitching on the topside, which is largely impractical to recreate.

I'm happy with the stitched seams. The seat is the closest reproduction K1/HK1 I've seen.

It looks good but also the rear is a lot taller/higher than stock. Honda had them tapered off toward the rear and they are only about an inch plus a half from the trim to top at the "HONDA" logo.

the seat looks awesome... my question is, whats the difference from this seat cover, for a k1, compared to the one you can buy from dratv, etc?

I just went to Advanced Auto and got the last can of the paint you recommended. I will use it to paint the battery box cover on my 1972 CL70.

Thanks,
