Correct Exhaust?

I purchased this 1972 CT70 with this exhaust on it.

I have seen some other posts stating that this exhaust is not correct.
Can anyone confirm or verify

Thanks for all help so far, too

Any chance this came with it, since it is Dated March 1972?
It looks like it has been restored at some point, so I'd say someone bought the OEM K0 pipe and shields as they are available still. If that were mine, I'd look for the k1 shield and scuff your chrome pipe and paint it with a high quality high heat paint. Then it would be more correct looking for a 1972. And you'll either have a spare k0 shield, or have it to trade or sell

No chance. It's for the k0 that is parked behind that k1 in the pic. You need this one. Good luck finding one that is in excellent condition for an affordable price. The K0 pipe is less expensive/easy to find and is probably why they put one on it.

My suggestion would be to check out the CHP Honda aftermarket K1 pipe. You may have to get on the waiting list.
They make two types for a K1. Standard quiet and a louder performance version. I would wait for the quiet standard version, if it's backordered.
It's the closest thing to the real deal.

I haven’t had any luck with the CHP exhaust pipes, Iv purchased 3 of them and they all have the wrong bend on the front of the pipe which makes the lower exhaust covers not fit correctly. Iv tried 2 of the standard pipes and 1 of the performance pipes and they all had the same problem. I also purchased them several months apart ( actually a little over a year between 2 of them ). Iv posted about this before and haven’t had any luck finding a good repop pipe that fits all of the shields correctly.

Good to know clayton. Luckily I have an extremely nice OEM k1 pipe for my next build. And used ones are slim pickins up here north of the border. There is however one guy offering a BNIB K1 pipe for sale, he's asking $1100 CAD for it! Insane if you ask me.

Used ones down here are slim picking too! CHP has some nice parts and some are the best in my opinion as far as repop parts go but as of now their exhaust pipes aren’t the best if you want the lower covers to fit. I hope they will make some adjustments on future orders to accommodate the lower covers.

Which one is correct for the 72?

Interesting....However, I have an old picture of my grandfather on the actual 72 K1 3 speed I still own today, and it has the original slotted front section. And 4 speed H models were never sold here in ontario. This bike was sold new to him in our home town, so I doubt the shield was ever replaced. So maybe someone else can give their thoughts

Link above shows a 72 with Holes?
As kirby said....both are correct, but the shield with holes came on the later model years...maybe 79-up, not exactly sure. The slots are "period correct" for K1, which is the initial question you asked....correct? That pic on CHP's site is a restored bike and has had a reproduction heat shield installed on it, and that particular heat shield has been repopped to look like the K1 with the exception holes.
