If that gets a bid for 3 grand, let alone buy it now for 5 G's I will eat my hat. :21: Indian sales must be slow!

Another fisherman out there! More like start the bid at 1500 with a 2G reserve and it would sell in a week.

It's a 1978 engine if it starts with E 270-6463. That is a rare motor. His price; to high but it's his engine.

After once being told that no bike should ever sell for over $3500 I don't feel so bad seeing a motor with a starting price of 3k. I figure maybe someone has a new frame they might get 4-6k for. If you really think about it you might be able to build a complete correct bike with all new parts for a modest $25000. That's not bad considering the 2 crated z50's that the guy wanted $89000 for. :vacs:

When you have something to sell and you think it might be the only one in the world, how do you decide what it's worth?

Start high, you can always take less.

I've dealt with this seller a few times. This is pretty standard procedure. He's selling off stuff from a long time family owned Indian dealership. They also sold Honda, and maybe others. I think the place is out of business now tho and he's selling off the remains. He's a cool guy to chat with if you care to contact him.

Yikes!..For 3-5 grand I'd want the matching number frame for that engine to come with it..I'll just keep my 78 with near matching numbers. Frame 2700577 engine 2700578 build date 5/77 and be happy with it.

Wow now I remember; your 78' numbers are one off and mine are 15 units off.

This engine is 5,307 units away from yours, and i agree if it came with a matching frame, 3K would be justified. Perhaps this engine never had a frame to go with it and was just a spare part extra?

Who knows but what luck it is to have an old motorcycle shop as once the family biz.

I never heard of a bare replacement frame that was sold with a vin stamp. Thought they were blank? Just up until a few years ago I recall new yellow 79 frames for sale, blank. And the left side case when sold separate, is blank.

Pat nailed it. Service replacement frames & case halves were always sold blank. I've seen a half-dozen replacement frames, plus a lot more LH case halves, over the years.

The paperwork is a strong indication that this `78 engine was sold as a service replacement engine, complete with factory SN.
