CT70paint.com Quality of their paint? Yikes!

I was wondering if anyone can tell me their experiences with the CT70paint.com Candy paint. I bought the Candy red kit and had a professional painter sand blast, prep, prime etc. with the materials provided in the kit (hardner, clear coat, everything). However, little pieces of paint keep coming off the bike when it's just been sitting on some t-shirts on the carpet inside my house. I'm concerned because this paint job cost me a lot of money and I don't want to have wasted it and then either pay for another sand blasting, paint job or powder coat. Anyone have any advice?
Thanks very much, Megan

Can you post a good pic or two of the issue ? There shouldnt be anything chipping or falling off a fresh paint job. I remember the pic when it was painted and it look really good.

I'll be posting some tomorrow for sure! I'm afraid to even lay a finger on it at the moment, but I'll have my camera tomorrow to take pictures. Thanks!

sounds more like the painter hasnt got the ratio of paint to hardener right than poor quality paint, i'd be quizing the painter on what ratios he used, i had the same thing happen with too much hardener added, same paint mixed correctly no probs whatsoever

I remember the first Pic's you posted up right after you got it back. It looked killer! If the paint is coming off is the primer under coming off too? if so I would think the bare frame wasn't prepped right, if the primer is staying on the frame theres not a good bond to the primer, or too much hardner in the paint.

As we read this forum from time-to-time, this is the first we have heard about any peeling or flaking. We used only the best products available including House of Kolors, PPG and DuPont ChromaBase products for aerosols and non candies. The paint kit purchased in this case is a urethane candy system distributed by House of Kolors. The primer is a Epoxy Primer used over bare metal, HOK Shimrin basecoat and the Clearcoat is a urethane clear. We have sold nearly 100 candy paint kits in the past year, with only a couple issues usually caused by lack of experience by first time or novice painters.

Paint kit we used on one of our bikes is holding up no problem, and it's being kept outside under a covered patio. No issues with extreme heat that the Midwest has had this year.

Yep, perhaps something went wrong with the painter. I don't reckon I can say anything was wrong on either the paint or the painter's part. The paint looked amazing while it lasted!! Anyhow, I've decided not to mess around with that anymore, it's at the powder coater as we speak. The rims and frame will be done by the end of this next week. I'll keep updating the project/build thread I already created with photos when I get the bike back. Thanks very much everyone!

thats wierd that the painter wouldnt make good, after all he screwed up.it not the paint but the inexperienced painters fault.ask the technical questions mentioned, what ratio of hardener was used.you didnt mention if you got your money back, but dont let them rip you off is all im saying.

It's possible that the hardeners were mixed-up; HOK uses different catalysts for their midcoats & clearcoat. If that's what happened, I'd expect what you've described. The wrong reducer can wreak havoc with paint, even a tiny amount... though it'll usually result in the paint curdling as it's being stirred. Can't say where the problem lies with this one but...going to PC is a radical change in direction.

I noticed you never posted pictures of the failing paint. It would be nice if we could see the problem, that way maybe someone else could learn from your misfortune.

Candy Ruby Red Powder Coat

Yellow Beetle here is a pic of my frame this morning hot out of the oven. If you're not doing a concours build, PC is a nice option IMO. Post yours up when you get it back.
