not mine but a DOHC Daytona 4 speed at 117cc should be an amazing motor for a fun ct. https://www.ebay.com/itm/14553

I don't think so. First of all, the guy wants $2200 for the thing. Secondly, it's a one off unit, specially built using a range of way different parts that may or may not will stay together, and it's only a 4 speed. And lastly, it's too much motor for a CT70. A factory built Daytona 190 with a 5 speed, costs less than half as much and it still too much motor. Maybe in a CT90 or a CL, but a CT70 is too scary at 60 mph and a 140 is all you need for that.

60 is scary? Not really, if you upgrade the suspension. Assholes texting and driving, is. Scary starts around 75+! For what it's worth, I can't get the link to work. I have no idea what the engine in question, is.

i don't know who's motor this is or if its affiliated with anyone on this site. A 117cc is what I would consider the minimum sizing for a street/touring CT70. Something like this will make about 12-13 RWHP and rev to the moon and do it quickly. My guess would be a comfortable cruising at 50mph, buzzy at 55, and a top speed in the upper 60's. 60mph? That's actually cruising speed for one of my CT70s. I also have a DOHC Nice 127cc engine that I'm about to drop in one of my machines.

Regarding this particular engine, I can only guess on a few of the things. My understanding is the componentry of this motor (since it is all small block, monkey-based) would be specifically made in the daytona factory in Japan. The Daytona 190, respectively, is made 100% in china. In today's world that may or may not make any difference...as China's manufacturing abilities are on par with the rest of the world...it's more a question about what materials specifications and tolerances are put into the parts that originate from there. I will tell you this, however. Having had both the Daytona 190 and a host of Daytona/takegawa/kitaco japanese made parts in my day, I'll say that at least for fit and finish, the latter is better. I've never been inside a 190.

Maybe I'm getting too old. My CT70 has such a short wheelbase and such I high center of gravity, that I have to stick my body way over the handlebars to keep from wheelying in first and second. Anything over 55mph is too scary for me. If I had to make a quick maneuver or brake suddenly at that speed, I'd be done for. My CL90 with its longer wheelbase and 18 inch wheels on the other hand, handles 65-75+ with no drama. And I don't care what anyone says to the contrary, a 217cc single is gonna vibrate.

This engine is a 117, not a 217 if that's even possible. I prefer Honda based bottom ends for the street. A Lifan 125 is not enough power for serious road riding on 50 mph roads, in my neighborhood. I know a Lifan 140 vibrates enough to be annoying. Maybe partly because I have the stock metal foot pegs. That obviously will not help. I do know a 117 is a screamer best for racing. The head on this engine is made to breathe. No one is forcing anyone here to ride faster than you are comfortable with. I mainly stick with 55 most of the time on a 55 mph roads, there is a stretch of that here as well. Hi speed blasts are just that. Brief, and not that scary...

For a guy who likes Corvettes, a Camaro just won't do. But if camaros are your thing...nothing wrong with that for sure.
Your CT70 sounds useless as is. Maybe regear it to be usable.

First of all, pardon my old eyesight for thinking it was a 217, instead of a 117. I actually have two Corvettes, and have no desire to ever own a Camaro, past or present. My CT70 is far from useless, I bought it new in '82 and have put over 6000 miles on it. It's geared the way I like it, (18/31), it'll do 60+ in 3rd and about 54 in 4th. Cruises all day at 45-50 with little vibration. Small displacement motors that are screamers, have a high, narrow power bands and need at least 5 speeds. or need to be geared so short, they're tiring to ride. My CL90, with it's 250cc's can pull 60+ in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear.

I thought you might come back with something like that. But it sounded like you were telling us you couldn't keep the wheel down in 1st or 2nd.

I own some Z50s and CT70s...but have no desire to own a CL90.

To each his own. I own 7 bikes, no two are alike, and don't even have a favorite, and got my eye on picking up an 8th this weekend. I'm 70, but when I put on that helmet, I feel like I'm 18 again.
