"Leave scooters in truck..."

Family camping trip. NE Arizona. Fort Apache Indian Reservation. Came into campground late in the evening. Host tells me I should just leave the scooters on the truck. After some confusion since I thought he said coolers, I came to the conclusion he meant no riding the CT's in the campground. Now I'm not one to ride around a campground, the plan was to ride out of/into the campground to find places around here.

I reply:

"The bikes are street legal."

"Doesn't matter - they catch you riding them...they'll take 'em!"

OK, being one not wanting to test this statement, they have stayed pat in the truck.

So far a nice trip albeit a little cool and very windy. We'll just haul 'em out of here and try to do some riding somewhere.

That's weird...I have never heard of anywhere that prohibits a street legal bike, much less have them take the bikes away from you!! Did you see "camp rules" or anything like that posted anywhere?

I'd have probably said "adios" & flipped half a peace sign on the way out, gettin' a bit too old to take bullsh!t from anyone. Anywhere but an Indian reservation or foreign embassy and the local constabulary could have interceded on your behalf. But, in those two instances, you're legally no longer on US soil and hence subject to a different set of laws.

Maybe its a fire thing :mad2:, still... no need for them to get gestapo with you.
Cant ride your trail bike on the trail? :35: Move to Nevada, we dont do rules.

I would like to know WHY they told you NO. Perhaps they have a good reason. Perhaps they thought you were going to tear up the land and they prohibit off road riding. I see no problem with you riding on designated roads. I would have riden them on the roads, perfectly legal unless posted regulations state otherwise.

I was told i couldn't ride mine in a campground also. Once i explained they were street legal there is really nothing they can/will do. I had them plated so it was no different than driving a car in there. They just dont want all the kids on little scooters and chinese minibikes zipping through the campground which is understandable. This was in northen michigan.

If they are plated Harry, I would drive them wherever you would drive a car or truck for that matter. Tell them to call the cops, you can prove they are street legal.

lol. let em take em then call the cops they have no legal right to impound a vehicle the cops do and i dont see any state laws prohibiting bikes in campgrounds any where. lol if they so much as try to take it let them know #1 you intent to go out of the grounds and #2 that if they take it you will call the cops.

I get people asking me while street riding all the time "what kind of scooter is that?"

I reply, "its not SCOOTER. Its a mini bike!"

Had the same situation my self a few times. I just ride and try to be respectful. One guy called the cops, cop showed up I showed him the 72cc on the jug and he said be polite and have a nice day. The guy was a little pissed but O well.

Mad props to you for being respectful, not sure I could have did the same thing. Are your CT's fairly quiet?

Exactly. It's a whole new world really...their world...

Plus its the only place in Arizona right now allowing camp fahrs. Its secluded, quiet, and very little in the way of campers. After today I figure we'll be about the only ones here.

lol. thats whats good about here they tried to take the law into their own hands and wham! the state police was on em like flys on crap. they live in our state and under our laws too. basically they have jurisdiction but the minute they abuse it the get run over with staties last time they tried opening an illegal smoke shop and they were all arrested or sent home.they made a big "racist thing" but didnt get far when it was proved they started the fight on camera of course the media made a big drama but. eh basically down here if they take your bike you call the cops they lose.
