Let's get this CT70 K0 back together!

The shock covers look more than okay. In these pix and on this screen match doesn't draw attention to itself. Most of the RH cover will be hidden by the muffler, which leaves about 1/2 of the LH cover exposed. But, as most of us know, digital photos over the interwebs ain't exactly the hot ticket for doing color matches...way too many links in that chain, any one of which can alter things bigtime.

Looks to me like it's coming together nicely, with nothing that can hold you back. If you get the itch to work through the little flaws, you've got great raw material to work with. May as well take your time. FYI, that speedometer outer bezel can be dollied-out, metalfinished and polished.

Yep, you've seen everything that has a sore thumb. Everything else from here on out is pretty 100% minty. :)

Regarding the trim, I'm not sure how to remove that ding because I don't have access to the backside. I've done this on trim before with 100% success, but I've always had access to the back. This trim piece is not removable (well, it "IS" removable if you want to uncrimp it...). But that's getting into some surgery that I'm not up for.

I had a couple questions/comments for you on the previous page.

Some hand sanding. Before and after. I could go more but I see no point. It’s all smooth to the touch. Everyone agree?

Red69 does that for fun. He’s got a whole box full of minty speedos in his garage. And I’m not referring to his swimsuit modeling era. :ROFLMAO:

I could use him for my cb450 gauges. I’d like the housing redone in satin and a New crimp job.

Busy weekend. I got a little more aggressive in the hubs where the shoe sits and got it 90% shiny. These are good to go.

She’s just about ready to stand in her own and accept the bad boy 88cc motor.

My ignition coil is bloody disgusting. I had to spray a rats nest off of it. Since it’s not easily able to be taken apart, I’d rather buy new.

How is DRatvs 6v cool?

Interesting note, this is my 10th restoration, and the first time I’m considering replacing a coil.

Got an air gun? Compressed air ought to make quick work of the fibrous stuff, a little solvent (brakleen, lacquer thinner) should do the rest. I'm sure the doc's 6v coil will work as it's supposed to do. At the same time, the number of failed OEM coils I've seen can be counted on one hand.

I actually just bought one off TBolt. They sell TEC units which is OEM equiv...instead of blue it's black, but that's the only difference. For $27 shipped for a rust-free clean part that's correct and ready to hook up...it was too enticing. It would take 3-4 hours of hand polishing what I have, and I wouldn't be able to get everything.

BTW, I dropped off the handlebar at the machine shop...and he was not happy with me at all. "All I can say is that I'll try my best." Not convincing words.

Can't blame you. We all view these projects based on our own situations. The way my shop is setup, I could clean that coil very quickly, same with the hubs. Without that equipment, however, it'd be a whole other story.

OTOH, the handlebar repair does kinda surprise me. I'd drill the stud fragment, then bash that price of EZ out into submission (and out the just-drilled hole). Then, I'd add some metal inside the bar end, using a welder and just redrill & rethread the hole. IDK, maybe there's something I'm not registering but, I don't think so and I've done this kind of thread repair a number of times over the years. Hey...if I'm wrong, I'll stand corrected; this isn't an ego trip. For the present moment, I'm just not seeing anything that's going to render your handlebar useless.

Got a call from the machine shop. He said he'll show me when he gets there, but from what sounds like, they drilled out and stuck an insert in the handlebar. Should be good to go, hopefully not too expensive.

Like I keep saying, there's more than one way to do this right. I'll bet they did a nice job for you.

I drove to the machine shop today and arrived at 4:10 PM. Closed. UGH. They're one of the places that don't post their hours anywhere, and a good 25 minute drive from work. I made this mistake to think that they would be open until 5. I guess I'll try again sometime this week.

I had them combine a CB450 shifter paw onto another CB450 shifter paw years ago.....and they did a bang-up job. They're reputable, so I'm sure they'll do a bang up job....

Top chrome piece installed, new tachometer cable bracket installed, and rear tail lamp assembled (all Honda parts). Boring easy stuff, but progress none the less.

Would it make sense to go ahead and set the engine on the engine holder and mount it as one single piece? I think the answer is YES.

I'm trying to move pretty fast on this because I need to get back to my original 1970 A66 Challenger. Spring is almost here, and I have a rebuilt date-coded alternator to install (from Totally Auto) and I'm currently rebuilding my power steering pump. While I love CT70s, it's hard to beat an old mopar....especially one with 68,000 miles....

I removed my engine before from my K3 before to clean/paint it. It had such good compression that it would be a complete waste of time to tear it apart. I remembered it being pretty easy, but I preferred to have someone holding it up as I attached the cross-member that has the side-stand. Probably the same with this one.

ALL black parts on this ride have been professionally sandblasted and powder coated. This should be a beauty when finished......with some patina to remind you that it's a 1970, late year K0.

I created this thread 9 days ago....and this bike I would say is 70% finished. That's from a complete start, with parts dug-up from bags uncleaned from 3 years ago. Not too bad speed-wise. There's a few days in there waiting on parts to come and waiting on some shop-work to get done. There's lots of stuff I've done that have not been pictured yet too...

Not that I would want to sell it any time soon, but I believe this is a $3,000 CT70. Yes, a photo-copied title from 1970 included as well. The rims are original...I did the metal work and had them powder coated. When all is done, I would say 90% of this bike is original. The rest is easy bolt-on crap that the serious buyer could do themselves that doesn't matter at all to me. The ONLY thing rattle canned are the rims!

That includes the original exhaust which you guys haven't seen....wait until you see it...along with a brand new NOS K0 heat shield. I'm using original wiring and all controls as well. The part I don't a damn about originality on these particular bikes is battery and the ignition....and all will be upgraded to current standards.

And I say that being a points guy. :)

Dont mean to change the subject, but isnt a '70 A66 Challenger..... a 340 4speed?

They’re a 340 challenger, could be auto or manual. What’s cool is that they have the R/T suspension, 11” drums, bumblebee stripe, ralleye hood, and scat pack stickers.

Wow, that one's beautiful. I just love old mopars. My dream one to have is the '69 Daytona.
If that Challenger was sitting in my driveway unfinished, I would have a REALLY hard time finishing a K0.lol
