Sticky situation with registering CT70

Hello everyone,

I'm in a sticky situation here and could really use your help.
I'll try to make this short, but what happened is that me and my family bought a CT70 on craigslist as a gift for my Dad's 60th birthday since he loves and grew up with them. The thing is that I don't know anything about vehicles so I just picked it up. The seller said there was no title but I thought I could just create one. Anyways, by looking on posts on here it looks like you need a bill of sale. But... I didn't get one. And guess what? The seller is ignoring me now. So I don't know if I'm the first person that has been in this situation, but if anyone has any ideas on how to get it registered that would be amazing since I fell in love with the bike and want to ride it to school.

Details and questions:
- I live in California
- I just have his phone and address (he lives 2 hours away so I would only drive there if it's my last option)
- Payed cash
- Could I create a sort of fake bill of sale? Where I like sell it to my Dad or a friend? And maybe they could even sell it back?

Thank you so much for taking your time if you're reading this.

Getting your bike registered in your state, even with a bill of sale is likely not an easy task. You need to get the bike back into the system, and find the easiest state to do so. Historically, the state of Vermont, (yes all the way across the US) is your best bet. There have been multiple threads on this forum with detailed instructions on how to register via mail. Upon completion, you'll get a transferrable registration and plates in the mail. At a point in the future, you'll need to surrender them to the state of California in return for a title, new registration and new plate. It's jumping through some hoops, but likely your best and only bet. Start here:

If you’re on FB, look up a guy named Roger Teal. He’s on some of the CT70 pages. He lives in Tennessee. He can get you a TN title, that can then be transferred to a Cali title.

Just my opinion but it's not a good idea to ride it to school, You do know they are very easy to steal? Lots of gawkers and crooks eyeing it. It wont be your bike for long trust me. Especially in the state you live in. Meg on here in California rode hers to school years ago.. It was ripped off.

Yea I know it's a risk, but I don't have a car so my mom has to drop me often which is not fun ya know. But anyays the motorcycle parking is like 30ft from a busy entry, they have cameras and police, and I thought I could put a tracker hidden in there somewhere. And man that thing looks so fun I just wouldn't be able keep myself from not using it. Sorry to hear about Meg though, that really sucks.

Lock it up good! I never like to hear about them getting stolen. And the tracker is a great idea. I would want my Glock as well with me to help find it.

Alexx, you've done a real nice thing for your pops. We appreciate hearing about it. You came to the right place looking for guidance. The advice above from MBM, and Old CT is as good as gold in this community. If I was using one of my bikes, it would be locked 2X and still under my watchful eye. Just know, if you're leaving it in public, in a regular place, eventually someone's coming for it. Good luck.

I would pick up a used Honda Navi for school. They are cheap and still a Honda.
Oh I didn't know about those, they're pretty cool. I'd actually like that, but I don't have the money and we already have the bike... But you guys definitely made me think and I'll take extra precautions.
