Title in Ohio

You might try another cop shop. Others Ohioans have managed to get these bikes titled & plated for road use. From what I've experienced (albeit not in your state) a lot, too much, depends on the individual/local office you deal with. Might be worth it to you, at this point, to contact international Title Service (Replacement Car Title: Obtain Car Title with International Title Service), or maybe vrodsss will point you toward the service he uses.

Best of luck to you. Hopefully, this turns into merely a matter of time & money...and you ultimately succeed.

I agree with Racer and CT, try another Highway Patrol office. It will still need to have a mirror installed. Turn signals were not required prior to 1973.

I too am following this. I would like to know what specific reason/s they gave you at the inspection post. Did it have to do w/ signal & mirrors, anything like that?

I'm wanting to make an offer on a 1972 SL100 & spoke to the BMV about going through the same process last week. My offer will be substancially less if I can't go the route I'd like to on this bike.

I took a pic of the ID tag on the SL & it doesn't state anything about "not for street use". Would there be a separate tag somewhere else on the bike? I haven't checked the numbers on the case yet. He also has an extra motor w/ it. Makes me wonder if the one in it is original. I'd hope at least one of the two is.

Great thread, I hope it works out for you.

Reasons were the off road only sticker, which I know you told me to cover, no mirrors or turn signals. Ohio mandated turn signals in 1968. There is a big grey area in Ohio motorcycle law that is open to opinion.
I spoke with another officer from a different station. He was very interested and will do some research for me.
I will not give up.........but I will stop just before they start taking away all your current Ohio titles.

Thanks for being honest.so i wont say nothing bad.he he.it is imperative that you cover your bases.the signals werent factory items on more than ct70's so i cant see them busting your nuts over them.but i had a funny feeling you didnt cover the badge and put mirrors on.i should be a mind reader.lol.it wouldnt be a bad idea to put signals on the bike.you would need the correct year ignition and wire harness/signal relay for a newer model.it makes life on the road so much easier.if you ever had to make a left as the lead vehicle from a traffic light with a H model you will know what i mean.unless you live in the boonies and wont need to hand signal much.P.S. learn your hand signals BEFORE you go back as they will ask you to perform them.

Cop just left my house loved the bike! Signed the papers with ease! Woo woo! Then again mine is fully restored with lights, mirrors, blinkers, prob makes it a little easier than trying to pass a all original bike!
