Z50 Tank Repainting

What

I'm going to be repainting my '69 z50 tank soon. When I got it, it was already in primer so I did not have a chance to take measurements for the two tone paint scheme. Just seeing if any one knows the dimensions so I can do it accurately.

The dimensions in BC's link should be 3/4" and 2 or 2-1/8" Honda dipped them and the paint varies quite a bit, but these numbers are good. I've seen some up to 2-3/4 on the high end. They don't look right. I could post some pictures if you need them.

Kirrbby is absolutely correct, Honda dip-painted these and they varied a lot. Some have huge paint gaps on the underside, the result of trapped air. What is "correct" is a judgment call...yours.

Mines 9/16" at the front to 2-1/8" at the widest portion near the back of the tank (then the bottom of the tank flares up a bit so the dimension is less). My 69 is original paint and the proportions look nice from the side, I kmow they varied a bit from the factory, but some I've seen online look really off...

Too true, some look just plain weird. That said, it's easy enough to make a template, from your existing tank, before stripping the original paint. Can't go wrong by replicating what it had, from the factory. Failing that, the above dimensions should be at least as good...better, if you don't have the original to use as a guide.
